Road Kill Report:

Yes, I admit it….I accidentally ran over a squirrel on my way home from work yesterday. My heart skipped a beat or two…no, make that stopped for a minute or two as I looked in my rearview mirror to hopefully not confirm what just happened. To my horror…it was true.

I wanted to go back, rescue it, take it in, make it all better, and then return it to normal life...okay, so I don’t have the first clue as to how to do all of that, but I do know a place that specializes in doing just that.

While I was turning my car around to go back and rescue the poor thing…its fate was no longer in my hands. You see, there was a long line of cars behind me…it was rush hour after all. Needless to say, when I saw it next its skeletal structure was no longer in tact, and it was looking a little flat (all except for the tail). Poor thing! Look at what I started…and I couldn’t even go back and make it better.

Come to think of it…I have felt like road kill before…thankfully some merciful soul came along, rescued me, took me in, and helped me return to normal life…before life flattened me completely.

I have been reading Tolkien this week, and came across the most incredible quote... When the burden of the ring he was called to bear was too much for him and he couldn't go any further on the journey on his own strength, the one who was sent to walk with Frodo, his good friend Sam said. "C'mon Mr. Frodo... I can't carry it for you... but I can carry you! C'mon!" Sam then picks up Frodo and starts to carry him up the mountain. I LOVE THAT! What a vivid picture of hope!
